Hi, I’m Dr Fong, the founder and principal dentist of Dental House Group.

Last week, Diana, our patient from Sunbury, told me during her routine checkup that she has decided to move ahead and replace her dentures with All on 4 Plus®, and wanted to know how long the procedure is. I thought this was an excellent question as I have been asked this a lot, so I decided I should make a video about it for anyone looking to get this treatment for themselves.

All on 4 Plus® is a treatment where we place an entire set of dentures on dental implants. Either four or six implants may be used and how many depends on the strength and structure of your jaw bone. We will do a full examination and assessment, so we can properly plan your treatment.

Dental implants are titanium rods that are placed in your bone to take the place of a missing tooth root and make the prosthesis more permanent, so that it looks and functions like your own teeth. The dental implants are fitted with connectors, which connect the implant to the denture, and you now have a new set of teeth!

Getting the four or six dental implants is often done in one surgery. Most patients will be under general anesthetic so they don’t have to worry about pain, stress or holding their mouth open. It may take a few hours and this will depend on if you are getting four or six implants, and if we are doing one or both arches, or top and bottom. Another factor to consider if we also need to perform any teeth extractions, and if so, how many.

If you are getting this procedure, we will be able to give you a more accurate time based on your specific needs. We know you want to be able to plan your day and we will do our best to help you.

With that being said, the entire procedure of getting the All on 4 Plus® implant procedure takes from four to six months. That’s because once we do the initial surgery to place the implants, we must give them time to heal and allow your bone to grow around them and secure them in a process called osseointegration.

This time is very important for healing and you should get plenty of rest, eat a healthy diet and avoid things like alcohol or smoking, because they can interfere with healing and cause harm to the implants.

After the implants are secured and your bone has healed, we will bring you back in for the appointment where we will fit your final denture onto the implants. This is usually done in a 1-2 hours session as we take our time to fit them properly and make sure you are comfortable before, during and after the procedure. We will also have you return for a follow up visit so we can monitor the healing process and make sure all is good.

I hope this gives you an idea how long is an All on 4 Plus® procedure.

If you are considering replacing your denture or teeth with an All on 4 Plus® implant procedure, we would love to look after you.

Here at Dental House Group, we offer flexible payment plans, as well as assisting you to apply for an early release of your super to fund the dental procedure. This means you can get your healthy dream smile faster!
