What is All-On-4 Dental System?

All-on-4 Dental System- Gisborne, Macedon & Riddells Creek - Gisborne Dental House
The All-on-4 system utilizes the advanced technology of dental implants to replace missing tooth roots. With All-on-4, a series of 10 to 14 teeth can be replaced with a prosthesis, which will be supported on four dental implants that will act as tooth roots.

The tooth root is important in the preservation of the jawbone, and dental implants are made of titanium, a material that is biocompatible with human tissue. By using four implants instead of one implant for each missing tooth, you can save both time and money to replace your missing teeth.

Benefits of the All-On-4 System

The All-on-4 system is ideal for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth and desire a permanent solution to replace them. The following are the benefits of All-on-4 dental implants:

Slow or prevent jawbone loss and deterioration
Restore bite force so you can eat and chew as if you have your own teeth
A good option for patients who may have been denied dental implants in the past due to lack of jawbone density
All work is completed in a week or less
Durable, often lasting for decades
More comfortable than traditional dentures
Stable and secure, thanks to implants that act like tooth roots
More cost-effective than getting one implant for each missing tooth

Oral hygiene and maintenance are the same as taking care of your natural teeth

They look like your own, natural teeth – and better if your previous teeth were damaged or worn

How it’s Done

The All-on-4 dental system involves a few steps for the implant procedure, healing, and then securing the prosthesis. Knowing what to expect can be a factor in determining if this solution is right for you. Here are the steps:

You will receive a full dental exam with x-rays to find hidden issues and to confirm you are a candidate for All-on-4 dental implants

All photos, x-rays, and scans will be sent to a lab that will use the information to create your new teeth or prosthesis, which will be customized to the colour and shape of your natural teeth

We will schedule an appointment in which the implants will be surgically placed into your jaw

We will work with you to determine the best sedation option to keep your appointment low-stress

When the implants are healed, you will return for placement of the permanent prosthesis and follow-up visits to ensure proper healing

Who Can Get All-on-4 Dental Implants?

This dental solution is designed for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth, especially those that are on the front upper or lower dental arches. Even if you have been turned down for dental implants in the past, the All-on-4 solution may help because we can place the implants on the dense areas of your jawbone to support all of your teeth.

Many patients who have dentures and dental bridges prefer to switch over to All-on-4 dental implants for a permanent solution to replace their teeth. This solution requires less surgery than replacing each tooth with an implant, and so is more cost-effective. If you are interested in this treatment, simply schedule a visit with us and let the dentist know your goals. You will get a full exam and evaluation of your oral health to determine if this is the best option for your situation.

After-Care for Your Dental Implants

As with any surgery, a few days will be required for recovery and healing. Because each patient is unique, your dentist will discuss details with you about what to expect for your recovery. The following are some general guidelines:

Get a ride to the office and arrange for a ride home to allow the effects of sedation to wear off
Be sure to get plenty of rest to allow your body to fully heal
Do not smoke as this can increase the risk of implant failure
Do not drink through straws
Avoid very hot foods and beverages
Abstain from blowing your nose and try to avoid sneezing, which can increase pressure on your head; if you must do either, keep your mouth open and be as gentle as you can
Take all prescribed medications as directed
Do not attempt to open your mouth wide or hold it open to see the stitches, as it could cause tearing
Follow any dietary guidelines to aid recovery
Swelling after surgery is a normal part of the healing process. Applying an ice pack on your face near the swelling for just 10-15 minutes can help reduce swelling and pain. Some bruising is also normal, which may show up in the following days.

Your dentist will provide customized oral hygiene instructions because each situation is unique. Any prosthesis should be removed as little as possible or not at all to allow the implants to heal. Regular dental checkups and professional cleanings will help keep your mouth and teeth healthy after you are fully recovered.
