What is a CEREC: Same Day Crown - Gisborne, Macedon & Riddells Creek - Gisborne Dental House

What is a CEREC Same-Day Crown?

A dental crown is a dental prosthetic that is shaped like a tooth, usually a molar, and fits over a tooth that has been damaged. It protects the tooth and works like a real tooth, so you can talk and eat without worry. It also protects the tooth, so you don’t lose it or the root, which also preserves your jawbone from deterioration due to a missing tooth.

A CEREC same-day crown is a dental crown that is created and fit onto your existing tooth on the same day. In the past, it could take at least two appointments and a few weeks to create and place a crown. But thanks to modern technology like CAD (computer-aided design) and computer-aided manufacturing, we can upload your data into a computer, and your new prosthetic will be created on the same day, from a single block of ceramic.

The CEREC Same Day Process

Our skilled dentists at Gisborne Dental House know that dental visits can be frightening for some. That’s why we do our best to ensure your comfort and safety, and if you experience dental anxiety, just let us know because we have options.

Knowing what to expect when you get CEREC same-day crowns can ease some anxiety, and knowing what to expect helps many people feel calmer about upcoming appointments. The following are the steps you can expect when getting your same-day dental crown restoration with Gisborne Dental House:

You will get a full oral health evaluation and examination
We will take x-rays, digital photos, or scans of your teeth and mouth
The data from these images will be uploaded into our CEREC imaging software to create an accurate and detailed representation of your teeth
This information will be used to create a great fitting restoration that will fit over your tooth
You may receive anesthetic, if necessary
While your crown is being prepared, we will prepare your tooth to hold the restoration by removing an old restoration or cleaning the tooth
When complete, we apply the crown that will function and feel like your natural tooth, but stronger

Caring for Your New Crown

CEREC Same Day Crown - Gisborne, Macedon & Riddells Creek - Gisborne Dental House
Just like your real teeth, dental crowns require care. Porcelain is not prone to decay like natural teeth, but the surrounding teeth and gums are still susceptible to problems such as decay or infection. Caring for your teeth with healthy, daily oral hygiene will go a long way to ensuring your crown lasts as long as possible and the rest of your teeth and gums stay healthy.

Daily oral care may vary slightly from patient to patient, depending on your oral health. Your dentist will guide you on any specific instructions you may require. Maintaining daily oral hygiene using the following guidelines will be useful for anyone who wishes to take care of their dental restorations as well as their natural teeth:

Z
Brush at least twice each day
Z
Take extra care around your restoration by brushing gently yet thoroughly around the gumline
Z
Floss daily according to your dentists’ guidelines
Z
Rinse with the mouthwash recommended by your dentist
Z
Wear a mouthguard if your grind your teeth or play sports to protect your teeth
Z
Avoid heavy smoking, coffee, and tea to keep your teeth as white as possible
Z
Get regular dental checkups and professional hygienist cleanings to help detect problems early, protect from future problems, and keep your teeth and mouth as fresh as possible
