  4. What Is The Cost Of Dental Veneers?

Hi, my name is Dr Fong. I’m the principal dentist of Dental House Group. A question I get asked often is, how much are dental veneers? I thought since it’s such a hot topic, let’s just make it into a short video so you can understand a little bit better about dental veneers in general.

First of all, for those who don’t know, dental veneers are kind of like a contact lens that the dentist permanently glues on the front of each tooth, so that we could change the shape, the colour, and the position of your teeth. It’s kind of like contact lenses but for cosmetic purposes, and it’s non-removable. It’s a great way to do smile transformations. And it’s getting more and more popular by the day.

The first factor that affects the cost of the veneer is what type of material is used. So generally speaking, there are two types of materials that dentists can use. One is composite, composite is like a plastic material that dentists use to make white fillings. It’s a cheaper material and it’s done freehand by the dentist.

The second type of material is porcelain. Porcelain veneers are handcrafted by special dental technicians outside of the dental office. The porcelain is a lot stronger than the composite. So as a result, porcelain veneers are generally about three times the cost of composite veneers. So that’s the first factor to consider in regards to the type of material you choose from and how it impacts the cost of dental veneers.

Now, even with porcelain veneers, there are all types of porcelain. There’s feldspathic porcelain. There’s Emacs. There’s zirconia. Just to name a few… So the different types of porcelain impact the quality, which also affects the price of the veneer treatment.

So apart from the material itself, the next factor that affects the dental veneers treatment cost is who does it.

Placing veneers onto your teeth, and making them look natural, rather than bulky, is an art form. And the mastery of this craft can only be developed and refined through time and experience. So an experienced dentist who has been doing it for 10 to 15 years will charge more compared to someone who rarely does one.

The third factor to consider is what character you want on the veneer. Some people want the Hollywood smile, which is simply a single-layered, or mono-layered of material and it’s easy to make and it’s fast. This is simply a pearly white smile, and there isn’t much character to it. That’s actually one of the easiest things that you can do because it’s just like one colour and it’s super white. Whereas someone who wants one single veneer at the front that matches their existing teeth. And if their teeth have white spots or certain yellow spots, and you want to mimic them, then the dentist and the dental technician will often have to create different layers to mimic the characteristics of the patient’s natural teeth. This requires a lot more effort, a lot more time, and as a result. That would also cost more.

In terms of pricing, generally speaking, when you look at composite veneers, the cost for that will be between $400 to $800 each, depending on who does the job. If you’re looking at porcelain veneers in Australia, then they are normally between $1600 to $2500 for each porcelain veneer.

I hope this video has given you some insights on the different factors that impact the price of a dental veneers treatment.
