What Is The Cost Of Sleep Dentistry?
So first of all, sleep dentistry, also known as sedation dentistry, is a great way to get a lot of dentistry done while you’re asleep so that when you wake up everything’s completed. Having said that though there are many different ways to manage anxious patients. The easiest way sometimes is to provide a patient with a muscle relaxant or anti-anxiety medication to take one or two hours before the treatment, very often that itself is sufficient to calm the patient so that they can sit through the appointment. And here at Dental House Group, we do not charge the patient for providing that level of care.
On the other hand, there are certain clinics that also offer happy gas, at a very small fee, typically a few hundred dollars, and that will also enable you to do a lot of dentistry without putting you to sleep.
And the level above that is where we have an anesthetist or a dental sedationist to come to the clinic and providing sleep dentistry or twilight sedation, or IV sedation for patients in the chair. For this level of treatment, it would cost more because we have another specialist involved.
If you’re super, super phobic, that might be the way that you choose to do your dentistry and your treatment, and often something like that will cost anywhere between $500 to $800 an hour, and depending on how long the procedure is, they usually charge by the hour.
You can also do sleep dentistry at your local hospital. However, general dentists don’t usually have access to that. But if you see a dental surgeon, they may have access to a hospital setting or general anesthetic setting, and Medicare can cover some of those costs.
So hopefully that answers some of the questions for the cost for sleep dentistry. So if you have dental fear, and is considering sleep dentistry as part of the procedure, we would love to help.
