What Is the Process of Wisdom Teeth Removal?
Hi, it’s Dr Jimmy here from Gisborne Dental House.
So, you’re wondering what happens when it’s time to remove your wisdom teeth? Let me walk you through it.
First things first, not everyone needs their wisdom teeth removed. But if they’re causing pain, or if we think they might cause problems down the line, then it’s definitely something worth considering. Some wisdom teeth are actually wise to remove, you know.
Now, when we do the procedure, the first thing we’ll do is numb the area. We want to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible during the whole thing. If your lower wisdom teeth haven’t fully surfaced, we may need to do a surgical extraction. That means we might need to lift the gum a bit to access the tooth, but don’t worry, we’ll make sure it’s all comfortable. Depending on your case, it can take anywhere from one to three hours.
For the top wisdom teeth, the process is usually a bit simpler. But again, if they’re under the gum, we might need to take the same careful approach. Your comfort is always our priority, so while you might feel some pushing or hear a few sounds during the procedure, you won’t feel any pain once the anaesthetic kicks in.
After we remove the tooth, we’ll put in a few stitches to help everything heal nicely. These stitches dissolve on their own in a couple of weeks, and your mouth will gradually heal up as the bone gets back to normal. Pretty cool, right?
So, if your wisdom teeth are giving you trouble, just shoot us a DM or call 1800GENTLE to book in for a consultation. We’ve got flexible payment plans available and are always here to help!
